Foo - Facepalm moments

Yesterday, I participated in a cool experiment, and afterwards, I asked the grad student running it about his experiment. I think we really hit it off, as we talked for 20min after about his experiment, discussing his really cool methods, his awesome results, and his totally hot science. He does language research with brain imaging and I totally totally want to work with him over the summer.

Today I emailed him basically telling him that I totally totally want to work with him over the summer, and he replied back with a message implying that yes, he would "totally totally" want to work with me too. So he set up a time and place to meet, and I reply back with:


Hi [awesome grad student with totally hot science],

X-day at Xpm would is perfect. See you then!


Would is? Would IS?!?!?!?!!??!

I love when you are sending important emails, and you re-read about a thousand times before sending - and you still miss your goofs.:o - but you spot them the first time you read them after sending...

I wouldn't sweat it - we all make those little mistakes.:)

A facepalm moment:

I've been actively engaged in a hunt to find a new saddle for my new bike. I sold one of my saddles to a BF member, and opted to spend the money on a new saddle and, if possible, an auxiliary purchase (like Jamie Smith's excellent work). So I hit up eBay and found a nice Bontrager saddle that seemed worthy of a bid, so I put one in. Unfortunately, when I go to my eBay, it turns out that I didn't place a bid for that nice Bonty saddle, but for an unlabelled saddle that comes on BikesDirect bikes!! The Bonty saddle was right beneath it.

My vocabulary is inversely proportional to my state of excitedness. :p I usually have an incredibly large and extensive mental dictionary, and I am not afraid to use it (ask my paper reviewers :p) but...you see what happens when I'm happy as a puppy thrown a bone.

Yes. I have to actively check myself when presenting my prized results outside of lab meetings, otherwise I say stuff like "totally hot effect of X on Y" during a presentation.:roflmao2: It only happens with exciting experiments though. When talking about boring research, I can act with impeccable professionalism.

Tell him that your timing chain needed adjusting and all the spark plugs in your brain weren't firing correctly at the time. :thumb:

^^Only when the subject matter is something I'm really interested in, because I get too engaging, then people go "whoa, slow down!!!"
