I just found someone selling never used white, machined, Deep V's for $200. The guy sounds pretty desperate, so I'm thinking maybe I can talk him down to $150. Comes w/ formula hubs (flip/flop in the back) and black spokes.

I was originally intending on getting the same setup except w/ Mavic Open Pros, but they're ~$100 more new with tax/shipping factored in. I know Deep V's are overdone and heavier, but they only weigh 85g more than OPs (V's-520g, OP's-435g). Make much of a difference?

Think I should pick these up if I can talk him down fifty bucks? I ride a 2006 Bianchi San Jose SS.

I'm not sure what you're looking for with rims, but if it's purely cosmetic I found these the other day

They are similar to Deep Vs and go for $100 new. Obviously you are sacrificing quality, but they offer the look and the price.

Nah, looks are pretty low on my list of priorities. Obviously, it'd be cool to have stuff match, but I was planning on getting Mavic OPs for the ride quality, low weight, and ossum durability.

I texted him saying I'd give him $150 and have yet to receive a response, so this post may be moot.

you can get those rims/hubs brand new on ebay (weinmann) for a similar price. Probablyl like 150-170. check it out. Basically, this is not a good deal. These aren't going to perform any better than the SJ's stock rims, but neither will Open Pros.

Open Pros won't perform better than Alex ACE 19's?

Wat.

if they are velocity deep v's, that's a good deal (not a steal, but good), if they are weinmann or other assorted deep v knock offs, then you are just getting what i would consider to be an average price.

not noticeably, no. You're not going to be able to tell much of a difference. Maybe weight, but as you said the weight difference is pretty minor. Why do you think there is going to be a huge difference? open pros are great rims, don't get me wrong, but you are putting them on formula hubs and a steel bike. if you were on a light CF bike, then yeah, you might notice the weight difference. If you want faster, replace the tires on the SJ. Get some 23c slicks and pump them up to a high psi.

Yeah, I'm passing on them, but I'm more interested in what Pedallin had to say about OP's vs stock rims.

The open pro rims are garbage. Why would you want those over deep v's is beyond me.
