I plan to ride sequim - hurricane ridge this saturday. I was thinking the olympic discovery trail may be a good route from sequim to port angeles. looking at the website for the trail it is hard to determine if the trail is paved for that whole stretch. the color coding on the map indicates it is pave but the description of some sections say it is not. Any one ride this trail lately? I would really like to know what to expect. I am riding a road bike with 700x23 tires. Are there are better routes?

I've ridden the trail from PA east, I think it was to the Dungeness River and back, definitely not all the way to Sequim. That was 2 years ago. It was paved, but there will be large roots and blind curves and dirt/sand. You might hit lots of sand on the trail in PA, too. As for riding on 23s, I wouldn't have any issues with it.

I rode that trail on my Olympic peninsula tour last September (see link in my signature). There are two gravel sections in the first 5 miles heading east from Port Angeles. After that, it's nicely paved the rest of the way to Sequim.

If you look carefully at the map below, you can see the unpaved sections in purple. The first one is at mile 1.1, the other is from mile 4.1 to 4.9.

I was riding on 32mm touring tires and I got through it OK, but I didn't enjoy it. If I were to go back there again I would skip that section of the trail and just pick it up at the Morse Creek Trestle parking lot at mile 4.9.
