"The 33"-Road Bike Racing - I'd love to be in a break with this guy....

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

....because I'd actually be able to get some recovery on his wheel.

One of my leadout guys, in the early 90s, was about 6'6", rode a 66 cdale with a 400mm mtb post at max height. I rode a 50 cdale back then, so the opposite end of the size spectrum.
I found that I needed a guy between me and the leadout guy because, frankly, drafting knees doesn't do much for me.
btw he's the one I went to Belgium with, and he was very strong for a year or two.

yes. he looks a lot bigger than in cyclocross (musculature, not height).

The guy behind him is my teammate Allen. Allen is maybe 5'6". Serious draft :)
So bummed I couldn't go to Hood...

You should see his saddle to bar drop. He was in a cyclocross race in Oregon one time and pulled up next to me (my teammate was offering beer handups... fun times). His saddle was nearly at my chest.
I've been in a break with that guy (not a break of 2, and it was a completely flat race). I was in serious pain even with the enormous draft. Those freakishly long legs can put out a lot of power.

there comes a point where you actually get less draft because their body is a foot higher than yours

+1. He did a crit down here in SoCal. The course was pretty flat, but I remember he was really strong. I think he got last out of the break though.

I is weird how bike wheels just don't look like they're full size under me from race photos. I need some 750c wheels.

Is that Ryan Trebon?
No, it's Barry Wicks. I planted my ass next to him for a while last night when a friend of mine invited me over to their host house dinner last night.
Trebon isn't in the race. He's at the Teva Games in Colorado.
um...you sure that ain't Trebon? I've dealt enough with both to say that the character in the photo does not look nearly goofy enough to be Wicks...and the caption says Trebon

From the Cycling News article:
"They wasted little time getting things started with an early barrage of attacks. With four kilometre left of the Cooper Spur climb, Kona's Ryan Trebon went on the offensive and put a 20-second gap on the field."
Trebon is racing.

Yep, I was mistaken. I saw Barry at a friend's house last night, and he said Ryan was racing Teva this weekend.
I didn't think that someone would sign up for a stage race with the intention of bailing two days in, but I guess that's what Trebon did.
My bad.
Leo, no photos cept the finish from Turtle Pond...I'm having a good season but not a photogenic one apparently

Thats why he's one of my favorite pro cyclists, right up there with Sven Nys; they race all 3 disciplines, 'cross, mountain, and road.
