I bought a very nice bike yesterday. The seller was a few inches taller than me...and so the bike was a bit large for my size. That said...the price was too good to pass up. I guessed that I could make some simple adjustments in order to dial in the fit.
The bike is a Giant TCR Composite O carbon fiber frame with Ksyrium SL wheelset and Dura Ace 10 speed complete . Bike is in immaculate condition. Very low miles. No scratches. Weighs in at just over 16lbs 2004 model. All this for 3000.00
I'm just under 5feet10 inches tall. The frame size is a 'large'. I would under normal circumstances require the Giant 'medium' frame.
I replaced the stem with a much shorter stem...and lowered the saddle and adjusted the bars. I put my old road bike next to the Giant and tried to match up the position the best I could via adjustments. I have them very very close now. I might need to take away a few of the carbon spacers under the stem to lower the bars a bit more.
I took the bike out for a 20 mile ride this morning...and it seems that I have managed a very good fit. The bike was very comfortable...and it seems the position was not much off from my old (perfect fitting) road bike.
Is there anything wrong with what I've done considering I've managed to dial in an acceptable fit? If I would have ordered the medium frame...It would have cost me closer to 4000.00. Did I do the right thing? I like to do training rides, centuries, some crits, road races, and occasional TT. My best time on the bike is when I'm out traing alone on a hot day in the summer on the open roads around my home.
Thanks for listening, Kevin
