Buying this frame fork, headset, handlebars, bottom bracket, crankarms, seatpost, pedals from a cool student i met.

He claims its a Schwinn Chicago, anyone recognize what type?

"54 cm Schwinn "Chicago" steel frame - an absolute American classic. I removed the braze-ons, sanded, primed, and painted the frame blue. This is a really nice looking fixie frame. I'm moving so I have to sell my summer project. "

How much do you think its worth? What Type of "Chicago"? (tell by geometry?)

Thanks!

The bottom bracket does not look like a varsity, the images are too small to tell more. Reason not a varsity is the bottom bracket has what looks like a too small a diameter bottom bracket shell, and you are showing three pc. cranks.

For a short period Schwinn did make less expensive steel Lugged bikes in Chicago, but not very long I think. Chicago would not refer to Chicago per se, for most of its history Schwinn was headquartered in Chicago so any USA built Schwinn could have that badge, imported bikes would have Schwinn Approved on the head badge.

Worth $40 IF you have the parts to complete, or can find a cheap donor bike, AND you do the work yourself. I buy similar bikes in that condition in that price range, but I have a handful of garage sale donors to supply the missing parts.

If you have to buy the missing parts at retail, it will be cheaper to buy a complete bike.

How heavy is the frame? As far as Schwinn Chicago, they made some low end junk, and some high end beauties. Its kind of like saying you bought a vintage Chevy. Is it a Corvette, or is it a Chevette?
