Anyone doing it (http://www.ultracycling.com/results/ultimate_island2008.html) this year, besides Ken Bonner? According to the schedule (http://www.randonneurs.bc.ca/schedule/sch_vi.html) it starts tomorrow at 3 AM.

Some info from 2008:

# Start/Finish: Victoria British Columbia, Canada
# Route totaled 2008 km. with a maximum time of 166h 40m to complete the route
# 63,000 feet total climbing (constant undulations — no major climbs)
# Scenic route: Victoria (Little Bit of Olde England); coastal sea views; forests, lakes, rivers, snow-capped Mainland mountains, full moon at night; awesome sunrises and sunsets
# Wildlife: Deer, Elk, Black Bears, Bald-Headed Eagles, Rabbits, Sea-Gulls
# Nine folks expressed interest; three riders started, two finished:

* Yutaka Moriwaki (Kobe, Japan) — 134h 20m
* Keith Nichol (Vancouver, Canada) — 136h 45m
* Ken Bonner (Victoria, Canada) — DNF (450 km — illness)

# Qualifications: Experienced randonneur

Sounds insane, but in a good way.

Ken finished the pre-ride last week and then came out for the Pacific Rim 600 -- which covered a good part of the same roads! He was still tired, so only put in a 27:34 -- slow for him.

I put up a new gallery here (http://www.veloweb.ca/bikepix.html).

Unless there are last minute arrivals, there are two starting out, just over three hours from now, including Keith again.

Should be interesting.

BTW, after Ken's DNF, due to flu, he rode it as a permanent in the fall.

There was 3 people starting this year. One rider came all the way from Japan again this year after completing it last year.

I read he had only done a 600k before completing it last year. Wow!!

Anyone have a map of the route btw?

Yutaka the rider from Japan did have a 1000km ride in his legs as he pre-rode the new 1000km japan brevet.
