Im looking for a set of shifters that can be mounted on the lower pipe of the frame.
Dunno where to get them though.

Does anyone know any online store where they have stuff like that and do ship to continental europe ?

Ah, I want them to be the "clicky" type, if you know what I mean. ;)

All tips welcome.

I still run downtubes... I've been thinking about switching... But it's hard to justify the cost. If you're racing, then yeah, it would make sense.

That means "indexed". Indexed will only work if you have matching rear derailleur and cassette because they work together. Each "click" pulls a specific amount of cable, moving the derailleur a specific amount needed for the matching cassette. The "non-clicky" type (friction) can be mixed & matched. Some shifters can switch between friction & indexed.

I just picked up these Dia-Compe shifters from Velo-Orange, they feel great.

In fact I also just installed bar end shifters on my cross bike.

I'm not sure I'm ever going to be able to go back to index shifting, friction is so smooth and positive feeling.

I wonder if he has the doodads or are they thingamajigs on the 'lower down pipe' to attach the 'clicky type' shifters to?

Saddle up what kind of bikes are they?

My 2 cents. Down tube shifters are nice, index is great, and bar end seem interesting, but its STI for me from now on. I really, really like having both hands on the bar at all times, right there with the brakes. Can't tell you how many times I almost lost it trying to shift with the down tube shifters.

Take a look at Loose Screws for old vintahe stuff they may have something as well as old frame brackets.

I have (like most of you) bikes with down tube (clicky and retrofriction), Ergo and barends and I am always reaching the wrong way for a lever. the worst was on my first ride on my Fantom Uno I reached down to change gears *blushing*

+1 - used them for years, raced with them, etc, but brifters are so much nicer. Just try riding up out of the saddle on a climb and shifting at the same time without brifters...

First one looks like a Masi Commuter.

Second one appears to be a Masi CX
