Foo - So Foo. I'm irritated - why looking outside I see locals riding high end bikes

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
new ones about every 3 to 5 days.

I know a few years ago when I had a bike stolen - the cops said there was a bike thieving gang around - and yes indeed there was - even caught up with them a few times (cops were not happy with me) - called the cops and then confronted the teenager jerks..
And now ... it continues around my house. Endless parade of bicycles - and new ones all the times.
Yes there are your Diamondback, etc items - but I see Giant, Specialized, Trek and an occasional Bianchi.
Just watched <and was rather sick> a - guessing 2009 Rockhopper Pro ride by --- and no the rider was not the owner - no way. The whole drivetrain was off - he had one pedal looking like a makeshift platform - the other was just the thing the "spd" is on so it's just a piece of metal. Thing made horrible noises and ... it is rather gut wrenching - I cannot do a thing about it and these stupid effers are doing it all the time out there. Locking up your bike sometimes isn't even safe. :(:(:(

This isn't the first time you've posted that your neighbors are scary. Time to consider moving?

hmmm....if you can get the serial numbers off these, perhaps a CL ad (no mention of SN in ad) about a possibly stolen bike....ask responders to id via SN if possible. If you find it is stolen, perhaps the rightful owner can be reunited with his/her steed and the police can nab the theif?

Tude, I feel for you. I hate kids with all my heart. If I saw a kid with my Kona, I don't know what I would do. Ahh, yes I do....I would beat the ever living shi~ out of the brat and then go after their parents. I'm sorry, but I work way to hard for the things I have and I won't let a little thug ruin it for me.
You always hear people blaiming TV or Video Games as a cause of bad behavior from children. Has anyone stopped to think that children are the cause of all of our problems? Now don't get me wrong, I love my families children and all of my friends' children. It's the others out there I can't stand.
Tude, if you would join me in a grassroots effort to ban children I'm certain you and I can go really far with this. Just PM me along with some nice pictures (ya, you know what I want) if you are interested.

I have a modest proposal on a way we can get rid of all children.

like those gang bangers are gonna store that bike inside.
they probably don't even know what they have their little paws on. It'll probably be chained to a tree outside their crib....not hard to investigate.

Couch,
I know where Tude lives, and have been over there a few times in the past couple years. Her assessment that the majority of the high-end bikes she sees being ridden by the neighborhood kids are hot goods is one I concur with. You ever live in the city? Pay attention for a while there, and some things become quite clear. Having grown up in the same city, I can attest to the "couldn't be bothered" attitude that the Police department has about bicycle thefts. It's been that way for at least 40 years, and it's very frustrating when you have a bike stolen and you know it will be an absolute miracle if the cops do anything beyond taking your report and filing it.

USAZorro, like I mentioned, I feel for Tude. Getting a bike stolen sucks and I thought I made that crystal clear. However, I stand firm by my statement in regards to banning children. Children are not like they used to be. I was an angel as a child and the children now are social-paths.

Everyone who believes that, stand on your head.
But you are right about today's kids. We should just kill them all.

I was speaking from the heart Zorro; I really don't like today's children.
With that said, me thinks you were a devil of a child...and this is why I like you.

Your gang bangers must not be like our gang bangers.
Here's how this would go in Houston...
Kevin creeps up to bike chained to a tree thinking he has time to pull out a pen and a pad, wrangle the bike over on it's back, and write down the serial number...
Rottweilers and Pit Bulls start chasing me in circles around the tree the bike is chained to...
Gang bangers come outside and beat me to a pulp...
Cops say, "What the F were you doing trying to mess with a bangers bike you friggin idiot? You got what you deserve".

If it was a vintage steel bike, you could tap dance out of it by telling them you were admiring the craftsmanship and was merely checking to see if they left file marks on the bottom of the lugs. :p
Hey MV. This is a lot different than pulling a prank outside of Spanky and Alfalfa's clubhouse.

Some people can't just up and move when they want, even when their in a ****ty area, Im sure if Tude could move, Tude would move. Hang in there Tude! Its the same way where I live and being the cops dont think its worth the effort or just dont do their jobs theres nothing much you and I can do about it.

I meant no disrespect. I just thought it might be worth talking about...perhaps others could offer their experiences and how they found a way to move, etc. Sorry if it came across smarmy.

I only lived in Rochester for 3 years (at UR) but my $125 Galyan's (now dick's) bike was stolen from outside a dorm locked up within the first 6 weeks of purchase, (was was right across the river from a "not good" area).
I was given a old Giant hybrid by a nice lady and moved closer to Henrietta and it was still on the bike rack last time i saw it (sitting there for 3 years).
a little move can go a long way.
