Hey folks!

As you can see this is my first post and I am new to the forums. I'm not sure what kind of a response I expect but I'm taking the plunge into it either way.

I have and had so many issues with my health that I can't even begin to describe how crazy life has been.
As of now, I'm 23 years old and weigh 258 pounds at 5'8". It wasn't always that way though. At one point I was 160 pounds and in good health. I gain a substantial amount of weight through meds throughout the years due to a number of medical issues. let's just say that I've had numerous catscans, mri's and a number of bad symptoms that have eaten me alive. inside and out. Without going into further detail or annoying nagging and crying about sickness, let's get to the point.

Besides, swollen lymph nodes and anti convulsants, I happen to tear my acl while playing football about 2 years ago. Shortly after I had acl reconstruction surgery and had an achilles tendon put in my knee with two screws. I underwent 8 months of rehab and still have severe pain at times along with instability.

BUT NO MORE.

After 6 years of not being on a bicycle I borrowed my friends mountain bike and started biking.
It's been about a month and Not only is my knee stable and strong, my health is getting better and better. I lowered some of my meds and can actually sleep at night along with excitement for getting up in the morning. I love it it to death. I've lost 14 pounds in a month and can't believe that a simple bike can turn my life upside down and bring me back from hell.

I'm sure there are many stories such as this on these forums but I had to share my great pleasure in finally finding some hope for a better future.

Any encouragement/tips/advice/criticism is more then welcome.

I'm devouring all the knowledge I can get on cycling nutrition and training techniques for big guys who dream of getting leaner, stronger and faster.

thanks in advance,

Ang

Welcome to the addiction that we call cycling. I think for most of us cycling has been a direct link to good health. Reading your story is just more positive proof that we are on the right track.

Congrats on your success! Now keep pedaling!

If you have knee problems, make sure you use the correct type of clipless pedals should you choose to upgrade. Get clips with a good deal of "float". This is freedom for your ankel to move left and right so you don't have your knee pushed the wrong way. Speedplays have the most float that I know.

that's a really good idea, I'm definitely going to look into that before I go riding again. Thanks
