Hello
I recently occuried a new carbon fiber fork for my road bike to replace the standard alum fork. My question is, how do you take off the fork? I only ask this question because I usually deal with aheadsets, and it seems that my road bike uses the older shimano stem headset, so I have no clue what to do. I'm not too sure if the fork and headset is threaded or not since I bought the bike used but most likely threaded. Thanks for all your help.

Take the stem out by looseing the stem bolt and pulling it out, may take a few twists.

Then, the top "nut" on the headset thats around the threaded steerer needs to come off. I'd take all the brakes off at this point to make things easier. At this point unscrew the next piece and the fork will fall out. Watch you dont loose any pieces when it does. Probably gonna need a 36mm wrench to do the job, sometimes an adjustable wrench will work too.

I don't think seely ment to say that exactly the way it came out 'cause if he did, it's bad advice.

To remove the stem, loosen the stem bolt about 4 turns then tap it back in with a mallet. With the wedge binder at the bottom loosened, the stem should slide out but it sometimes takes a bit of persuasion.

Loosening the threaded headset just requires loosening the locknut and cone that are threaded onto the fork. They're probably 34mm. A big crescent wrench will get them off but you'll need the right sized headset wrench if you are planning to reinstall using threaded components.
