General Cycling Discussion - Alternative mounts for Road Morph/Mini Morph

I've two bikes the oem mounting brackets for Topeaks mini pumps.
The CF Motobecane has the two sets of bottle boses but I need both cages.
The 80 Schwinn Le Tour Tourist has no bosses and with the bottle cage stem mounted, there's no room for the handlebar bag.
After what I refer to as 'the last time' being stranded roadside because I didn't carry enough CO refills, (the cel got one of the club to come back with a pump and got me on the road)I stopped into a LBS and got the mini morph (already having the road morphG)which fit unbotrusively between the drops on the 44cm ritchy handlebar.
Fortunately, the shop also had some double (hook one side,loop the other) heavy duty velcro which-cut into 2 strips-secured the mini morph nicely on the handlebar.
The seat tube on the LeTour seemed the obviousl place but I needed to keep it from slipping.
Two pieces of minicel foam (I kayak and outfit the cockpit with this) attached to the pump via adhesive backed tape combined with the double sided velcro to provide a slip and slide free pump mount for the regular Road Morph G
This allows swapping the G model between the Transit Bag factory mount I have on the 91 Paramount and the 80 LeTour.
It also raised the question of why Topeaks R&D doesn't offer something save the bottle boss mounts.
Anyone have a link (their site seems berift of any)to e-mailing them with the suggestion?

The mount that came with my Topeak Road Morph G works with water bottle mounts or wire ties. Here's a picture showing it mounted on the down tube:

Unlike the OP, I could afford to give up a water cage. My bike has 2 mounting points for cages. One is in the normal place on the inside of the triangle on the downtube. The other is on the outside of triangle on the downtube. Not too keen of placing a bottle down there, even though I do have fenders. My multitool wasn't long enough to screw the bolts through the pump mount into the bosses, so I had to mount it to the inside of the top tube triangle using the zip ties.

By using one of the mounts from the above link, I'll be able to relocate the pump to free up room for a frame bag.

Apparently the mount is no longer free, even if you ask nicely. Now it is $6.95 plus $1.95 shipping. An additional $9 doesn't make sense; I'm going to return my Mini Morph and choose a different brand that includes a piggy back water bottle mount.

FWIW, I just bought the Blackburn AirStik (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001GAOR3E/), it included a cage/side mount.

PerformanceBike sells a behind the water cage mount for $2. It fits the Mountain morph perfectly but it's a little big for the road morph so you have to use 2 velcro straps. Rav also makes the same mount for about $4 and can be ordered through any LBS.

I was all hung up about deciding on which pump to get, then I realized - even the full size road morph is no larger (diameter-wise) than my specialized mountain bike pump that comes with a under the water bottle cage mount.

So I ordered the full size road morph. I just installed it beside the water bottle cage. Rather than using mounting screws, I used the plastic ties to attach the mount to the downtube under the water bottle cage.

Seems to fit. I used to have my specialized mountain bike pump there, so I doubt size will be an issue. The crank arms have *just* enough clearance to get by the pump (probably 1-2cm of space). But they don't move, so I think it will work out, but I haven't actually ridden it yet. I don't want to sound *to* optimistic since I haven't taken it out yet.

On my other bike, which has a mini-morph, they just attached the mount to one of the down-tubes of the rack, using some foam to give the mount a little more to grip onto. This has really been perfect - out of the way, doesn't need to be moved, unlike mounting it under the top tube (because of my car bike rack).
