Okie, so I'm building this delicious fixi conversion for my girlfriend (wow, it's so nice to ahve someone who can keep up with you on a beat up single speed motobecane *heart melts* but that coastings gotta go!)

Shes just vegan. Very Vegan. Not that I mind. I would just like to find high quality, durable toe straps that are not leather. Those cheap nylon ones suck.

any recomendations?

I hope she takes B12

I've tried a few different types, even some plastic Cateye ones, but I think leather is unbeatable. I repair old ones by cutting new strips of leather for the buckles. This way I can choose the leather I want. Sometimes I use thick leather dog collars form the supermarket.

Oh, I just got it; she doesn't want to strap a cow to her feet. Hmmm.

I had some nylon Campagnolo ones that were very good. The teeth on the buckles were much sharper than the usual $2 black nylons. I only wore them out because I did them up way too tight. So, not all nylon ones are cr@p.

I bought a pair of these a few months back and put them on
my number 2 bike. I find myself not wanting to ride that bike
as often. The reason is that the rubber straps dig into the top
of you feet. It might be that I've sort of spoiled myself by
putting Toshi double straps on my other bike, but I really dislike
the rubber straps. Just got to build up the nerve to spend another
$100 double straps I guess.

like they dug in moreso than leather single straps? i dont really keep my straps too tight, just tight enough for skips/skids, not so much for pulling up regularly while pedaling

I don't have a brand name for you, but the $8 nylon ones have been great for me.

i have a pile of nylon's i've accumulated through friend's and family that didnt like straps on their mountain bikes/retired road bikes.
i only went to them because i snapped one of my leather ones and hated miss-matching.
so i've found the thicker the nylon, the better they work. sharp teeth are important, definetly, but a strong spring and thick nylon wont slip if you put it through right.

neither of you tried track pedals so shut it. i said that because i recognize that people like powergrips, but i really like clips/straps, its not my fault that they're oh so hot

i have been using the same christophe straps for well over a year...when i got them i got two pairs because i was skeptical of their durability...every day riding through the second winter and they still are holding strong...ive gone through about 10 toe clips but the straps keep on truckin

i have been running the same EAI nylon straps for 3 years now. very little stretch no cracking or breaking. the only thing is the they use to be white and now after time and them being used every day all year they are an ugly brown. but no biggy. and if i remember correctly they were 5-8 bucks chear than the leather ones.
