my latest bike was from mail order.

How hefty? I'm only looking at spending 100-200 on a wheelset... so duty above 50$ might just make it worth it to get and LBS to do it.

Duty will depend on the original country of manufacture, if it's the USA then there will probably be no duty because of NAFTA. You will have to the PST and GST and a small handling fee. Here's there website (http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/import/postal-postale/duty-droits-eng.html).

if you are not in a hurry, get the supplier to ship by mail. The handling fee for customs is only $5.00 that way. If it comes by courier, you will pay a brokerage fee, often $50.00 or more.
