so i just bought some leather double to straps off of craigslist. the thing is they're of the custom handmade sort, and the straps are too wide to fit through the holes on the pedals. my question is, would there be any negative repercussions if i were to just get some scissors and cut them to the right width? or perhaps, maybe have somebody drill out the pedals to make the holes bigger.
here is a pic of them, i got them for $20. other then this one problem, im really stoked about them.

How much would you have to trim? I don't know if you could do it with most sissors but trimming leather is done all the time. Just make sure whatever you use is sharp and take your time.

I thought vegans didn't use leather?
Custom handmade? You do realize that quality leather straps are laminated to prevent stretching...right? I'd say considering they don't fit through the pedal slots...you may have been had.

im the type of vegan that will use 2nd hand non vegan goods. not food though. im not freegan. but the damage is already done when it comes to used stuff.
i mean, they look pretty legit. and i've talked to this guy a few times. he wouldn't rip me off. also, they've been used lightly already. they're fine.

How much do you need to cut off? If you can, get the scissors the medics use on the rigs. Those things can cut through motorcycle leathers easily.

If that's the case then I recommend cutting them with some whalebone scissors. ;)

I have many vegan friends who also have this approach especially when it comes to used leather saddles which in the long run, are more environmentally friendly (unless you are a cow) as they will often outlast their rider.
With care you could trim those straps to fit but you will need extremely sharp tools.
