I know this may be more of a cyclocross question, but figure there may be more people in this forum with San Joses :thumb:

Anyway... I recently moved and left most of my bikes (including all my MTBs) behind and I'm really missing the dirt. I've got a San Jose that I've been using on the street lately, but am contemplating throwing some wide cross tires on to hit the dirt. (my other issue of concern is that I'm in New Mexico now, so I'd imagine the wider the better to deal with the dry lose dirt/sand conditions.)

So anybody know from experience the widest tires that can be mounted (rear and/or front) on a Bianchi San Jose?

and on a related note, any good suggestions on wide cx tires?

My first and only set of cyclocross-worthy knobbies are my Kenda Krosses- they're heavier than any of my road tires, but still smooth for road use- just don't do any hard cornering on them; the rough knobs on the edges are nice in dirt/grass but hairy on asphalt.

Couldnt you just measure, at least for a basic idea?

A 42". One can go up to a 45" but 42" is realistically the biggest tire to fit a Bianchi San Jose. I'm running Continental City Contact Tires - slicks because I don't take it off-road.

The 2 tires I use for singletrack/dirt road/pavement combos is the Kenda Smallblock 8 and the Ritchey Speedmax (not sure if they are making them any longer). 700x35 size on both.
