I have been searching for information on a Firestone Speed Cruiser but I'm not having any luck. This is the first bike I've owned as an adult and I'm excited to know all I can about it.

All I know about it is that it's a single speed, 26" tire, Speed Cruiser, not sure if it's a I or a II. I don't know what year it is or even the serial number. I want to get as much of the rust off that I can but I don't know if the frame is made out of steel or something else. I just read on one of the other threads that it was actually made by Monarch.

Well if it's rusting, it's steel. Aluminum doesn't rust, and it's sure as hell not titanium or carbon.

The serial number should be stamped on the frame somewhere. The most popular placement is on the bottom of the BB shell.

+1 Old Department store bikes were gas pipe steel.

+1 Rust = Steel. I am a big fan of oxalic acid for rust treatment, do a search of the forum on that topic, and you will find more than enough information on that topic.

Old department store cruisers have very little value. My wife picked up a cherry one last week for $40, which was probably full market in our area.
