Fifty Plus (50+) - is it just me

...or does anyone else find it disquieting at the start of a long climb to look up and see a couple of vultures circling overhead.

Or a cemetery at the top!

At least you can still see the vultures circling- instead feeling them land on your back.

During my tournament fishing days, I always figured that if there were vultures circling overhead, I had stayed in one spot too long.

Hell no!!

As an aging athlete and having survived the 'pangs and arrows' of of fortune and experience so far, I know that vultures taste just like chicken!!! Soar too close to me and they're dinner. . .forgotten well before dawn.

Vultures give me wide berth! Coyotes and lawyers, too.

One of the great things about being 50+ is that we don't need to take prisoners alive.

Yes, I guess "disquieting" is a good word. Not really worried, and they look kind of cool as they circle, sometimes riding the thermals up the canyon walls. Never been attacked or anything close to it, so really, no worries.

I appreciate this thread. I've been meaning on asking the same question but I was afraid folks would start inquiring about whether my medications were therapeutic or not.

To answer: I take it personally, and they creep me out.

One of my favorite places to ride has a flock of resident turkey vultures just because rabbits and armadillos don't seem to get along too well with busy 6 lane state hwy's.

They do seem a little too interested in the cyclist when the temps get up past 90 though.

Next time take some BBQ sauce with you and a Bic lighter. If they get too close you can have lunch!!!

Disquieting?! For me it's normal. I'm so fast up the hills, the vultures must think it's only a matter of time until lunch will be laid out on the asphalt. I believe they monitor my rides in shifts.

Wear a jersey with a local televised P.I. law firm printed on the back.
They never attack or eat their own,professional courtesy.

One good thing about seeing those birds is that at least someone is cleaning up the roadkill!

Hey, Kevin. Thanks for the vulture culture. I'm a horizontal - style birder and found the link really interesting. We have a roost or two here in New Haven.

I get a little nervous when I see the ambulance parked at the trail head.
The EMTs wave at me as I pass the fire station. I always wave back, too!
