Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Fastest you've gone on your bike?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I did a 12 mile ride yesterday and managed to hit 25.5mph on a 48/18 setup with no elevation decline. Not sure how accurate that is but it's based on the GPS/speedometer gauge on my phone.
What's the fastest you've done?
edit: argh, just did a search and there's already a thread about this. How do you delete?
42.42 MPH on 48x17. I'm awesome.

42.7 on 48x17, (downhill). Close to 200 RPM. On flat around 32 but I know can go faster.
32 mph on a 48x18 (Flat). Based on one of those mini radars meant to slow cars down

32 seems to be pretty popular on flat... That's my best so far as well.
i did a small test run today. my ratios are really effed up.. =/

Does it count if you took your feet off the pedals?!

Damn you!
60 km/h + on a big hill on my old geared mountain bike.

30mph down hill (i can't pedal any faster (working on it))
23mph on the flats (pushing hard)
about the same as exhumed with same gear.
~ 32 mph on one bike, ~35 mph on another.

i was with a friend with gps yesterday. he mentioned that we were at 25mph at one point, but im not sure what my all time high is.
38x16 = not too fast, maybe 20 or so.
I got 37 on a flat with a wicked tail wind once. I mean SICK tailwind. Steady flying past cars. And another time without my computer (I had switched it to my road bike) I hit what felt faster than the previous 42.42 MPH top speed on a way smaller hill with another sick tailwind. I was flying past cars on a 40 MPH speed limit road, and in this town I'd be surprised if they were adhering strictly to the limit. But, I didn't have my computer so I'll never know.

28.7 is the max on my computer and the fastest i've gone on my conversion. 52x19 gearing. i could have probably hit 30 but i ran out of road (was a short bit in a business park where i didn't have to worry about running stop signs and what not. guess i don't have street creds)
didn't have a computer yet when i was on my lynskey, but i was on a downhill on a road where people usually do ~40 and I wasn't having anyone pass me up. thought the road was empty until i started slowing down and saw i was ahead of the pack of cars and going about the same speed. guessing i was doing maybe 37-38

Fixed: 29.8 flat (46x16; ) 31.5 downhill (46x17.) MTB: Much faster on the road that I take after the single track ends on my local ride (gear irrelevant.
Wow, I need to step it up...
max was 64km/h (downhill) on 51-17 ages ago, but been riding on 42-19 for the past couple of months, I reckon my spin's improved significantly that I could perhaps break it.. but cbf changing gear ratio.. spinners are for winners.

32mph, both flat and down-hill, on 49x18. Must. Learn. To. Spin. Faster....
On a geared tandem with Mrs. Octopus: 58mph downhill. We reclimbed the hill to se if we could get 60. Mrs. Octopus rocks. Got 58 a second time.

kept up with cars in 30mph speed zone (flat) on a 42x16.... you can imagine the crazy pedaling... lol i don't know how much the wind attributed to the speed either.
31 MPH on 46x17, i'm slow :(
this gearing is not very high.. a tooth would definitely make a significant difference. plus, 31mph also isn't really that slow.
to all: i don't think that the gps speedometer on your phone (at least, not on an iPhone) is a very accurate way to measure your speed since it doesn't refresh as quickly (or accurately) as a dedicated gps does.. therefore the phone might actually miss the point where you were going fastest, unless you maintained that speed for at least 5 seconds.

you guys are crazy - i'd be really nervous going that fast with someone else on the back - i'd feel responsible if we crashed. especially if it was my wife! but if she wanted to do it, that's cool. wild.

Half the fun in riding (for me) is knowing how fast I'm going at any given time.

Hah, I bet this thread sounds sad to any roadies reading it.
54 mph, 36x19.
...(actually probably more like 25, a decade ago on a mountain bike. I've yet to go fast on my FG).

Well, it's kind of impossible to go "fast" on a FG.
Pardon?
We're discussing top speed, so I fail to see how what you said makes any sense at all.

Plainly, my response was meant to say the reason the dsh has not gone fast on his FG is because it is for the most part impossible to go fast on a typical FG.

I'm sure people can hit 50mph+ on 100+ gear inches, downhill of course.

My top speed in a race was ~57 mph.
My top sprint speed ever was 42.8 (perfectly led out by a combination of slight downhill and accelerating SUV).
Track bikes are rad and all, but for speed? I love my Co-Motion.

At speeds over 45mph, downhill, roadies rarely pedal. Aerodynamics become exponentially more important as speed increases (wind resistance is not linear), so pedaling is just wasting energy. One might sprint a few strokes to close a gap, but then it's tucking and cornering well.
Also, re: track, Marty Nothstein said that he's topped 50mph before. He rode 50:14 and 51:14, 96.4 and 98.4 GI (nominal), respectively.
Kevin Sireau's recent world record for the flying 200 (9.65 if my memory serves me) comes out to an average speed of 46.3 mph, which is really impressive considering that all you've got to help you accelerate is a little bit of banking. No leadout.

50mph, but that was on a road bike and aided by my weight. I was dusting the smaller guys without even pedaling

I hit 28 mph the other day on my fixed (flat). No speedometer, but a car was nice enough to shout it out a window as they went by me.

54 mph behind a motorcycle in a 49-15 for a flying 200 on an outdoor concrete velodrome. I know of others who have gone as fast as 58 in this kind of exercise on this track, which sadly, no longer exists. Speed measured by speedo on the motorcycle. We were training for leg speed.

Bet with a few feet of rope you could break 60.
