I got the following message in my work e-mail today. I actually lived in the same residence building at UVic with Dan... he was a very friendly social guy. Hopefully he's ok.

My brother Daniel Hughes has been missing from Vancouver since Friday.

Daniel is probably somewhere in the Vancouver area, and we feel it is in
character that he may have gone to the North Shore mountains. He was
riding a distinctive bicycle.
We are asking for people to help by putting up posters and keep an eye out.
Specifically, ways to help find Daniel are: put up posters in
southwestern BC, walk in Vancouver, walk trails on the North Shore in
Vancouver (Please be extremely safe! If in doubt, don't go), pass this
information on to others.
Useful places to put posters are North Shore Trail heads, bike shops,
pawn shops, and other places where cyclists and hikers might see them.
People can print the posters themselves
