Zinc Oxide is an old remedy we used to have in the UK for rashes and abrasions. It is also good for pulling splinters out of hands if put under a plaster so Reckon it would be good for road rash.
But as a Pain relief- useless. As a prevention for getting abrasions- Vaseline is just as effective. But as a Cream to clean up cuts- good. But if Butt ache gets that severe- you have a BIG problem

i have been using this for avoiding major problems from long rides in hot weather, but didn't know if the above would have been better or not:

I know we've voted on this before, so here's my vote (again) for Bag Balm. I use it for all my rides, including double centuries, and it works well with no side effects.

But one product is for butts and the others are for mammaries. :(

Yup, Bag Balm has served me well when the need arises. The smell is a little funky but it's hard to beat the price.
I've tried Udderly Smooth and didn't like it, it's too thin and doesn't last long enough. Smells better than Bag Balm, 'though.
Never tried Boudreaux's.

Another vote for Bag Balm. I've seen the Udderly Smooth and thought of picking some up but the Balm has been working for me.

I tried Boudreaux's once. It didn't seem to work as well for reducing chafing, etc. as the more conventional chamois cremes and udder balms. What it did very well was help heal one day's chafing so you could ride the next. Apply to any hot spots right after you shower after your ride.
Do not try to use as a chamois creme, it penetrates every needle hole in your shorts and needs 2 or 3 launderings to get it out.

Zinc Oxide is the white stuff surfers put on their nose. It's a skin toughener.

The problem with Zinc Oxide is that it doesn't wash out well at all.

I've recently started using Bag Balm because of the cost. I use very little of anything, but use it for every ride.

Udderly Smooth is a good hand lotion, but too thin and watery to work as a chamois cream.
Another good bargain option is Queen Helene's Cocoa Butter Cream. It holds up pretty well and the smell reminds you of girls tanning on a beach.

I gave a friend a fair sized sample of Bag Balm, from my can. Yes, it was clean, and in an old pill bottle.
Previously, (several weeks ago) he had to use a prescription ointment, almost every day - even when not riding.
A few days ago, he asked me where I get my Bag Balm.............. LOL

My daughter uses butt paste in the baby's rear for rash. Works for that, but I like Utterly Smooth for a chamois cream. It's grease-less and stainless.
Although I never had a problem, thanks for bringing up the issue. Now I know what to remedy the problem if I ever get it.

Must have tough buns; have never used any of that goop/stuff in over 300,000 miles of cycling.
Good shorts work for me . . .
