I wanna know people's recent experiences w/ these tires. i have read past reviews about sidewalls giving out, but I haven't seen anything recent. Also, how do y'all think they compare to the gatorskin? I can get gatorskins for 30 bucks and everwears for 35 bucks. I was thinking about an everwear for the rear tire b/c I skid on it and wanted to know what y'all think.

I have/had this tire.

Despite skidding (I don't skid religiously, in fact, I avoid it, but I do ride brakeless with 15 skid patches), it took about 5 months for this tire to crap out.

But I did have the sidewall problem. I am not sure what did it, but something in the sidewall got punctured and the inner tube started to stick out in one place. Like a goiter. Gross.

Anyhow, it was rideable but it made me paranoid so I replaced it with another Soma Everwear. So I would say for a moderate to low amount of skidding, these tires will last you quite a while. And for people who skid a lot or only have a few skid patches, they will last as long as any other tire.

Some of my friends have Gatorskins though and I hear they are pretty good too. For $35 I think you are getting a fair price either way. Where I am from they cost at least $40.

I've been running them on my bike since November and just recently had an issue with my front. The bead separated from the rubber causing a huge bulge in the side. I tried to have them warrantied but was told they don't do that on rubber...so I returned that one. I'm planning on ordering another one sometime, but a free Bontrager's working just fine for me right now.

Also, my girlfriend's been running them for about 9 months and hers are going strong. She's never used her brake either, fwiw.

I'm ridng my 2nd set of Gatorskins now and love them. 23s. awesome tires out here in the desert.

I went through an everwear in about 2 weeks, but I ride a lot (a LOT), and don't run a brake (and I live at the top of a hill...), but I have 17 skid patches.

Whoa someone needs to shred less. :P

My stock Kenda tire did last about that long though. Course, back then, I was skidding more.

I've had everwears for close to a year now. No flats. No problems. No brakes.
and yes, I ride my bike nearly every day. I personally love them.

I had sidewall problems with my everwears, but that was quite a while ago. I don't know if they've gotten any better. I know what won't get better, though, and that's how crappy the ride quality is on a skidded everwear. They really, really square off after a while and cornering ability goes way down. They aren't a good riding tire. I would never have one on the front. I prefer gatorskins to everwears in general. Gatorskins also ride better in wet conditions.

I started buying expensive tires (like conti gp 4000 & michelin pro race 3). Once you spend that much on tires, you try to not skid so much and then tire life goes up. Also, you get the benefit of a superior riding tire for that longer period of time. Win/win in my book. I just put my pro-races on last week. They are grippy and awesome! I feel like I could take a corner at 50 mph with those guys.

I've only heard about Soma's bad sidewall history, but I've never ridden them. Having ridden a Gatorskin in the rear, I'd say get that. It's tried and true and will last a while as long as you dont abuse it. Plus its cheaper

i used the everwear for about 6 months, then gave it to a friend who is still riding it after about a month. i skidded, i used my bike everyday. if you skid a lot, they will be one of the longest lasting tires you can buy. but, the ride quality does suck- they get squared off, as stated above, rather quickly, but still last a LONG time.

I have a everwear 700x23 in the rear now. it replaced a 26 everware.

I agree with the ride quality comment. My 26 got squared off after a while and seemed to slow me down. I replaced it with a new 23 for that reason. I figured if they are gonna square up, might as well save a couple mm's.

I like to skid and prefer to use these tires for that.

The gatorskins are good to, I have a set on my road bike. but they are more for flat protection. Ill probably end up with one in front of my fg.

My gatorskin lasted me about 2 months on the back tire. I really liked the way that tire felt, especially in the rain. Right now I'm riding a Rubino, and it's lasted as long as the everwear (so far) without even showing the threads. The hole I ripped in the everwear was about 3 inches long (and after only 2 weeks).

Well. My rear everwear's sidewall went out at the 7 month period. I skid very, very rarely. My front everwear has been going strong now for 9 months.

Never had a flat with either.

OP is currently riding gatorskins... but it's about time for a new set of tires, so he's wondering if he should try the everwears or stick to gatorskins; he already knows gatorskins rock.
