Touring - Draft Plan for Summer Tour in Flathead Valley and Glacier Park

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Okay, my "draft" plan for touring in Flathead Valley and Glacier Park is below. I'm using the route sheets from Biking the Great Northwest by Jean Henderson and contributors. I've also read the trip reports on www.crazyguyonabike.com, and I have a copy of Adventure Cycling's routes in this area.

Any suggestions for improvements from cyclists in the area, or from those who have toured there in the past? I try not to "over plan," but my schedule's a little tight, and throwing four days of driving into such a short trip isn't fun. I wouldn't mind putting it off for a better year, but I'm concerned about the upcoming closure of "Going to the Sun" road.

Equipment Changes: I'm thinking of selling my Sierra Designs Sleeve Flashlight tent and going for an REI Quarter Dome. I'm also thinking of picking up an REI Sub Kilo 20 sleeping bag for the trip. I'd like to leave the cook stove at home and do the trip with two rear panniers and a handlebar bag to keep down weight for all the climbing.

Okay, here's the plan:

Enjoy your climb on going otthe sun HY I climbed it twice fully loaded start early, gear down, dring fluids and enjoy the view. I cant remember going through Browning though It seems i rememebr i went north from Cut bank and into Canada either because of forest fires or some one advisedme to go that route and head to waterton park in canada before hitting Glacier park of course that was 4 years ago and a lot of miles since then enjoy the ride

Catfish,

Thanks for the comments and encouragement. I could do a longer, less complex and expensive tour if I stayed closer to home, but from all reports it appears that riding Glacier and Flathead Valley are worth the trip.
