My nine year anniversary for car-free came and went. I forgot all about it.
Maybe next year at a decade I'll celebrate. What is a good car-free celebration?

The night I drove the car over to the buyer's place, I detoured out to the nastiest suburb mall for one last look at what I would give up. I was going to go to one of those phony theme restaurants- Outback- and order a steak and bloomin onion but I think I got a salad instead. Maybe at the 10 year anniversary I'll rent a car and do rush hour out to a mall and remember the pleasures of polluting.

I dunno. My decade came and went on April 17. I forgot about it until after the fact.

It seems difficult to celebrate what's normal.

Side note: Last week I went to renew my driver's license. For the second time since going car-free, I'd let it lapse by more than a year, and so had to start over with the written test, and I left with a learner's permit instead.

A bike tour sounds appropriate.

BTW, gwd, congratulations on #9.

I renewed my DL just because they wouldn't renew my library card unless I had it. (I thought you of all people would appreciate this fact.:))

I did mine just for cashing my paycheck.

Our county is pretty liberal with ID for issuing a library card.

Adults need any sort of photo ID from any gov't agency, or employer, or college. If the ID doesn't have their address, a piece of mail (except junk mail) will do for proof of address.

Teens need their report card or ID same as adults. Kids just need their parent's signature.

Now, the New York (City) Public Library requires only that you live in New York State. You can sign up for their card online and have it mailed. I have one of theirs too. Great for the downloadable audio books.
