It's only been a week but the swelling is gone and I'm about to start stretching it out a bit. Very soon I'm going to want to get back on the bike but I'll definitely need a solid brace--just leaning on the bars hurts like a b right now. Anyone been in this situation and have a good recommendation?

I'm seeing my doctor tomorrow to look at the Xrays cause there might be a fracture. I'll ask her about a brace too, but I don't know how well I could trust a suggestion from a non-cyclist.

When I was recovering from a broken wrist (after all the hardware was removed) I would ride around in a rollerblade wrist guard - provided plenty of support as well as more confidence that I could survive a fall.

If it's fractured, the doc will probably say no riding for a while. The short wrist casts do permit riding when the doc OKs it, as long as you can shift and brake. You might have to wait until you get a cast below the knuckles before you can ride comfortably. (Well, semi-comfortably.)

Likewise, you can ride in most wrist braces. If the doc prescribes one, your insurance might pay for it. They're pretty pricey if you have to buy one at a medical supply house.

I've been through a total of 10 months of disability from a wrist fracture--5 months at the time of injury, and 5 additional months a few years later. I hope yours goes better than mine did.
