Just like a lot of others, my Mavic 717 rims started rattling after the tab used to tack the two ends of the rim together prior to welding the joint came loose. The front rim started rattling on the second ride and the rear after about a dozen rides. :mad: I hate creaks and knocks and rattles.
I don't know where I saw this trick mentioned, but I couldn't find it when I searched the forum so I figured I may as well start a new thread.
Anyway, I sprayed a little Dow Great Stuff Foam Sealant into the rim where the tab is rattling around, cleaned up the excess that oozed out into the spoke holes with acetone before it had a chance to cure, and left the wheels to finish curing overnight.

The sealant now prevents the tab from rattling around and for the moment, I am very pleased with the results.
What do you think? Did I do something stupid? Will it last? Would something else have worked better?
BTW, before any of you try this:
Spray a little foam out first. The first blast is often too much foam too fast.
Have your paper towels, swabs, and acetone ready. It's only 15 minutes or so before the sealant starts getting tough to remove.
Do both rims at the same time. By the next day, the sealant will haved cured and sealed the can too.
