I'm writing a novel for teens and at one point in the story, the hero and a friend go for a cycle. I describe starting in a city (from a rr station). The cycle then takes them through three valleys (i.e. up and down three big hills). The distance to the next railway station is 30 miles. At the moment, I'm saying this is Hereford but I have no idea what the terrain there is like.

Is there any place a couple of hours from London that has all (or even most) of these characteristics?

Many thanks,

Joe

Big hill -a 17% for about 1 1/2 miles- not to far from London called "Bury Hill" down in Sussex. Just North of Arundel. It is one of the roads that cross the ridge of the South Downs Way and I can tell you there are plenty of hills around this area. Haven't ridden the area except on a Mountain Bike but look around Amberley on the river Arun and you will find plenty of Hills that will take the legs away.

Thanks for that. What would be a couple of rail stations roughly 30 miles apart that would take in the hills?
