Hi all,
Just picked up a Raleigh Gran Sport frame and fork for $1 on my way home.
Dunno the year, it's kind of navy blue with baby blue accents.
Says it has Raleigh High-Tensile steel (would that just be 1020 or 2030?).
Also, i'm accustomed to seeing the raleigh head badge that says England on it, this one seems simpler and just says "The Raleigh" (Huffy???)
Any thoughts??? Piece of junk? Worth the 100 pennies i spent on it?
I don't know much about Raleighs.

Moving to the Appraisal sub forum.
Sounds like you got a 1980-ish model. That would be 2030 tubing. Fine for riding, but it's worth nothing to a collector.
For that price, you really couldn't go wrong.

Thanks for the input. That's what i thought, just thought i'd clarify.
I might end up making a fixie out of it.

Definitely worth 100 pennies. With copper down, that probably only $1 at this point.

Saw one of these at the co-op the other day. If you can imagine a Raleigh Grand Prix that happened to be made in Japan, you'd be pretty close (hi-ten frame, stamped lugs, components nothing special). Would make a good commuter, single-speed or fixie. One of those bikes that no one would brag about, but that everyone would admit is still decent ride at 50 times what you paid for it.

Haha I was so excited to find what looked like a decent frame and fork for $1 that I didn't really spend the time to check the size.
I was looking at the head badge and realized how long the head tube is.
The thing's pretty massive. A rough, quick measurement gave me somewhere in the 63-65 cm range.
I'm only 5' 8.5".
Oh well, i'll find a buddy to give it to.

One should not confuse the later Gran Sport with the Raleigh / Carlton built Gran Sport of the early seventies... they are much different bicycles as far as quality goes.
I paid $10.00 Cdn for mine... it has those nice green Reynold's stickers.

Indeed, I'm pretty sure this was built by Huffy after they bought rights to the Raleigh name.
