Thinking of new wheels for a Nishiki Custom Sport that I bought fairly recently and that I am giving away to my brother who needs a ride. He's pretty strapped for cash and since the bike cost me only $30 to begin with I thought it would be a nice gesture to help him out.
Then I saw these wheels online and was wondering if they were worth it? They hubs are Campy Centaur and the wheels are Mavic CX somethings I am told and the seller is going to include the cassette from what I understand.
Are they worth it? It'd be nice to put my brother on something that's shiny!
Thanks for the input,
-Donny

First, the something or other remainder of the wheel logo will answer the question about value. If they are CXP 21 the only way they're worth $150 is if the bike is still attached. If they are CXP 33, then that's a really good deal and there's a bunch of CXP XX inbetween those two.
Keep in mind the Nishiki probably has 27" wheels so you'll have to check the brakes to be sure they can reach the 700C rims you're looking at. You probably have friction shifters so the type of cassette won't make much difference. Oh yeah, one more detail. The spread between the stays at the rear dropout is probably 124 or 126mm on the Nishiki. Those wheels are almost certainly 130mm. You'll have to cold set the stays if you want the rear hub to be easily removed or live with a difficult fit where you have to pull the stays apart to mount the wheel into the dropouts.
Without a pic of your Custom Sport it's hard to say if it's worth this upgrade. Some older (70's early 80s) Custom Sports were hi tensile steel framed, heavy bikes with chrome rims. By 1983 the Custom Sport had a Tange 5 Chromoly frame and alloy components. By 1987 it sported a double butted chromoly frame, narrow Araya alloy rims, downtube index shifters, hooded brake levers and alloy bars.
However, wheels are easily removed and mounted on another bike.

To address a different question, are these good servicable wheels that are worth SOME price, yes, they are not junk, and should spin real well on the right bike.
