in the past when I toured ai wished i had a decent fishing pole alomg I would sometimes rig something up with sticks and line and a hook There is great fishing along some of the rivers out west and wondered if anyone has any info or experiance with these teloscoping poles and where can i get one?

I figure one if these along with some hooks little bit of tackle i can get a meal of fresh fish occasionally for a change

Well, I know where you can get one in Vancouver, BC.....

Seriously, they are great. They collapse into about foot long rod. You can leave the reel -- and it doesn't have to be a big heavy reel either -- on the rod part permanently. You really just need a half dozen spare hooks, a couple of small spare weights and a couple dozen plastic worms (or tiny red beads which trout love; or use berries and real worms). Get SMALL hooks. A lot of folks figure that the bigger the hook, they bigger the fish they'll catch. Uh uh, not so. A Leatherman type tool helps, obviously, for all kinds of stuff, even for clubbing your catch or removing the hook. You probably don't need a lot of line wrapped into the reel either, just a hundred feet or so. Get some light line -- suitable for fish up to 15 - 20 pounds. Most trout or perch etc. are just a couple of pounds anyhow.

You're adding very little weight to your panniers with one of these. Very good, very practical and very fun addition to your trip.

Happy fishing, Mr., er, Catfish -- you cannibal

Back in the '60s I bought a 4 piece rod from Eagle Claw. I think they still make them. This had a reversabe handle so could be used with Fly or spinning reels. It came in an aluminum case.
