Road Bike Racing - Despite the book on Lance...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

it appears that Discovery Communications (Discovery, TLC, Travel Channel...) will be picking up the sponsorship for next season...announcement may be today in Sandy Spring, Maryland, HQ of the company.
maybe thay can do a documentary on sensationalistic journalism...
or on the libel suit (do they own Court TV?)...
looks like Mr. Armstrong will be around another season.
This is cool. Maybe when I next flip to the program "A Bike Is Born" on one of the Discovery Channels, it won't be about motorcycles. And maybe the Travel Channel will do some show on touring Europe (or anyplace) by bike or vacations that follow the TdF.

I'll second that. Canada's version of Outdoor Life Network hasn't seen fit to do much at all on cycling. Althought, there's hours of excellent coverage if you need your fix for the Lumberjack Challenge. And don't forget the World Paintball Championships.
Sheesh.

Great. And "Discovery" is a much cooler-sounding name for the team than the current "US Postal." :)

dude! can you imagine the specials they would have on cycling! OLN hear your heart out! i think i would never leave the discovery channel (for that racing fix on speed channel), it would be GREAT!!!!
Go discovery channel, but could you imagine the jersey colors, probably not the best?

Here's a link to Discovery Communications' (http://corporate.discovery.com/) website.
Looks like the parent company's branding isn't all that bad, actually. As long as the team doesn't end up sponsored by Animal Planet, they could end up in a blue rather similar to the Postal Services' jerseys. And I like the planet logo - seems fitting.
As I'm looking around the site, though... I'm not yet convinced that this is the announcement they're going to make. Sponsoring a pro cycling team doesn't seem to fit in with the company's mandate. I wonder how shareholders will dig the idea. And I can't decide if it makes perfect sense, or no sense at all, to announce new team sponsorship, 4 weeks before the Tour.
See you after 3:00 o'clock, when we get the word.
Maybe Clint and Stacey from "What not to wear" will get input on jersey choices, then the team could trade busses with Phonak for a "Trading Spaces" episode. Oh, and they could go to Australia with the Croc. hunter. Imagine the potential.
I'm happy they'll be around another season, but it doesn't seem the same. Lance should win his 6th this year under the postal flag. It's only right.

American Chopper plus Monster Garage meets the Tour de France? Cool.

From cyclingnews:
"John S. Hendricks, founder and CEO of Discovery Communications, is an avid sports fan and in 1999 formed the Women's United Soccer Association (WUSA), the premier women's soccer league in the world. Hendricks has served as Chairman of the Board of Governors of WUSA."
Yeah! I just read that, and came back here to retract the sentiment.
Thanks, Devil.

AHH yes! the book!.. Today one of the hot girls from CSE (owned and represents Lance) came down and talked to me. She said that they could hear Lance yelling on speaker phone to Bill Stapleton about the book and everyone in that office is going apesh!t about. So i hear now that they are filing a lawsuit....no one remembers that Bill Stapleton was a lawyer before he was an agent lol

Hey S:
Fancy meeting you here! :) LA will be under the postal flag for this TdF...the Postal sponsorship goes through the end of the season (whenever that is..for LA probably not much past the TdF).
