Cyclocross - Fitting 135mm Hub to 130mm

Just trying to get some input on how best to build- up a wheel for a 2008 Poprad Disc. The Poprad uses 130mmspacing while most common is the 135mm spacing for mtbs. What kind of problems am I going to run in to if trying to use a 135mm CK heavy duty disc hub(36h)?? Thanks for the input...

Is the bike steel? If so, just spread the dropouts and put the wheel in. I did this for years on my Torrelli.

Does anyone actually make a decent disc hub in 130mm? I know we went round and round on this with Motobecane Ti bike. The concensus was that there wasn't a decent hub in that size then. Anything change lately?

I have been scouring the intrawebs for a 130mm disc hub with no luck. I was going to have Psimet build me some wheels, but he couldn't find a 130mm disc hub either. I think I will have my Poprad cold set to 135mm and just get some decent mountain hubs.

OP - There is an active auction on Ebay for a set of Novatec hubs and the rear is 130mm disc. I'm not interested in them simply because the seller is from Asia. I imagine you would be SOL if there was a problem.

Hey guys.. thanks for the input. Yes the bike is steel. How involved is "cold setting" a bike to 135mm? I was doing some scouring of past forums and one Poprad owner said that 135mm dropped right in... called it "manufacturing tolerances" Having a 10spd cassette, if I used a mtn hub all i would need is a spacer to fit in back? I'm still a lil confused. Anyhow... more input is always welcomed! Yes Phil Wood does make a hub...very $$$$ and I believe you can get a custom spoke hole pattern for extr*****$

I'm not sure if this is relevant, My 05 Poprad is spaced at 132.5 to accommodate both 130 and 135 hubs. I have had both in there with out issue. I don't know if this is true with the disk versions.

Thanks! I ended up taking it out to my lbs and we measured it and sure enough... 130mm exactly. I tried putting a bontrager disc hub in it and it went in with a lil coaxing but then there were problems getting the disc aligned properly.

I have come to a decision and I am going to splurge for the phil wood 130mm slr disc rear hub with a custom 40h pattern in the rear and a wood front hub in 36h config. will be doing 2xbutted front & rear with DT Comp spokes and either Macic A719 or Velocity Dyad..

Anyone care to give their input on this setup??

FYI - I just bought one of these. (http://www.bikemania.biz/Velocity_130mm_Road_Disc_Rear_Hub_p/velocity_roaddhub.htm) Planning on building up a second wheelset for my Poprad disc for commuting. If nothing else at least a less expensive alternative - hopefully it'll be a decent hub.

bombproof yes, expensive, yes.... will it bring me lots of enjoyment?? yes!! Afterall, I am using my .000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001% of the federal stimulus bill to fund this "venture" :lol::D:rolleyes:

Sounds like your building a wheel set for a heavy duty 29er instead of a cyclocross bike.
