I'm going to be working in LA for a month or so and at the same time am looking to buy an 80's steel road bike of decent quality- you know the same kind of bike that everybody else on this forum seems to be looking for i.e.: Japanese steel; my faves: Miyata, Fuji, Nishiki, or a Trek. I understand that the pricing of these bikes depends greatly on the region. What's th market like in the LA area?

Higher than might seem reasonable but the demand for these bikes for fixed gear conversions is still high. Craigslist is the only easy option to find them, and the asking prices can be silly but ruthless bargaining is the norm.

The Nishiki I have is a 58 from CBB to top of seat tube.
Photos of it can be seen in my sig. link pm if interested I would be willing to strip it down if you are interested. Its actually to big for me its just a spare set of wheels for others to use.

That's a clean looking bike. I'm guessing early 80's. Looks like a Sugino crank. It's a touring frame and I'd really like to find a racer. Just out of curiosity though, how much would you want for it?

Thanks, I was afraid of that Indolent. I've been checking the LA Craigslist and the prices seem as high if not hgher than the Bay Area's. It's amazing; somebody sees $250 for a clean Miyata and everybody with a piece of crap labeled Miyata thinks they should get $250 for it.

Are you interested in the entire bike or frame set?

I have a 20 year old trek. I'll let it go for a reasonable offer or $5.2 Million...cash only!

Bike boom ten speeds are becoming more popular. I picked a Centurion & a Viscount free after somebody cleaned out their garage. Prices go up (and I do mean up) from there. Figure $200-$250 for something decent.
