Has anyone done this century before? It's my first one and I have no idea what to expect!

this will be my first century as well, I'm a little nervous about the distance, I'm a LOT nervous about the climb. I'm even going to drive that part of the route early this week to see if it's out of my league or not.
Today, I was talking to one of my friends about going up Hamilton tomorrow, as we are both funemployed at the moment. We plan out the route. A couple minutes later, his dad calls and then tells me that I should not do that tomorrow, but ride Metcalf instead (he did the Livestrong last year). He told me that I had to know what I was up against. I told him that I drove up it a month of two ago. Then he told me that I will not be ready for it otherwise.
I changed my bike ride to do Metcalf tomorrow because of this.

The gnarliest climb I have done yet is Mt.Diablo in Walnut Creek. It's 11 miles with a 3220 ft gain. I hope that makes me a little prepared for Metcalfe! It's like a range of 5-17% grades so we'll see how I do this weekend! Gotta love spinning the granny gear!
I am kind of nervous too about the distance. I just had oral surgery so its taken me off the bike this past week...what's your guys' longest ride to date and how long have you been riding?
I just went up Metcalf today. It was tough with fresh legs. It will be even tougher after 70 miles. I was lucky to have found a good cadence early on and made it all the way up without stopping. I made it in about 23 mins today, so if I get 30 mins on sunday, I will be pretty content with that.
By the way Justin, there has been another thread going on here about the Livestrong San Jose.
