Does anyone know something about Hed wheels? Specifically, I am thinking about buying the superlite lenticular disc and an H3 for the front on my triathlon/TT bike. I see the wheels are 1/3 the price of mavic and zipp. Plus, my tri bike uses 650c wheels and I cannot find that size in mavics at all.

I guess my question is, are these wheels good? I have never heard of them before.

Thanks.

HED, i have never used them but i know people that do. I have never heard anything that would suggest they are not well made wheels.

I saw them listed in gear guide in triathlete magazine. It pretty much looked like they only listed the better wheels. They just didn't give ratings on them

i see lots of triathaletes in my area that use the H3 wheels or the Jet series. I would test ride them if possible at your lbs to make sure they are what you are looking for.

Mike Burrows only recommends HEDs, and I think he knows what he's talking about (he only reinvented bicycle aerodynamics). World TT champ David Millar uses one on the front too.

I was watching the Lance Chronicles this weekend and saw that he uses Hed wheels too. I had just never heard of them before now and they are so much cheaper that mavic and zipp.

If you want a really nice disc wheel with a great warranty and low price look into the Renn disc. Nothing fancy style wise but it is a great performer and runs $400 from Renn. www.rennmultisport.com

The Renn "5IVE SE7EN 5IVE" (575) is a sharp wheel and they stand behind their product. I had a HED 3 rear and it was great. I think if you put the RENN on the rear and a HED 3 on the front you won't be disappointed or broke. Both should run about $1000 new.

Check out the RENN.

G'day,

The HED H3 was pretty much the fastest non-disk wheel you could buy for the longest time, it may still hold that honor as well today. On the disk side of things, the HED discs are VERY competitive to the much more expensive models from Zipp and the like with the differences between them being more theory than real (perhaps a second or two over a 40k distance). You can't go wrong by purchasing something from HED.

However, as another poster mentioned the Renn disk is/was the budget performer on the disc market, if you aren't concerned with weight (if you're not climbing then weight should be down your list a bit) it would certainly be an option worth looking at, and they get as many rave reviews as anybody else in the aero-wheel market.

I suggest we don't use the David Millar thing to promote these wheels(he just admitted to doping). However, Lance uses Hed or at least did for a long time as well as triathlete Barb Lindquist. Either way, their products are quite popular at my local bike shop, they recommend the Heds over the Zipps usually.
