Charity Events - Volunteers needed on July 26 in Massachusetts for cycling event

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

The American Cancer Society is holding their first bicycling event in New England on July 26, 2009. We need all the help we can get! Please read below, I’ve listed everything I am responsible for securing. Let me know if you can help, or if you know someone who would want to help. Please forward to any contacts you have that might be interested. Thank you!

“Bicycles Battling Cancer” is a 72 mile non-competitive ride starting at Clark University in Worcester and ending at Hellenic College in Brookline. The route goes through the towns of Leicester, Oxford, Millbury, Sutton, Northbridge, Upton, Hopkinton, Holliston, Medway, Millis, Sherborn, Medfield, Dover, Needham, and Newton.

What I need:
Volunteers to stand along the route to cheer riders on and guide them on what turns to take. (roads will not be closed to vehicles)
Volunteers to mark route and put up signs day before.
Volunteers at water stops in Hopkinton, Holliston, and Dover.
Use of tables, chairs.
Volunteers for registration at starting line.
Volunteers to set up and/or break down starting line.
Volunteers to pick up signs after ride is over.
Use of phones with DirectConnect or Push to Talk (anyone have connections with Verizon, Nextel, etc?)
Donations of water, bread, peanut butter, jelly, fruit, power bars, anything a biker would want to eat to “fuel up”.
Medical support at the start, finish, and water stops (EMT’S, RN’s, MD’s, trainers)
Mechanical support at water stops.
A bus to take riders back to Worcester once the race is done. (anyone have connections to bus companies that would consider donating a bus and driver?)
Donations from bike shops for rider “goody bags”.
Massage therapists for finish line.

And as always, participants to ride and raise money. www.cancer.org/bicyclesbattlingcancer

If you can help, know someone who can help, have an idea, have any feedback (that will help me), please don’t hesitate to contact me at kristen.frazee@cancer.org

Thanks everyone!
