Well, I'll be heading to bed shortly, because tomorrow is the big ride! I don't know how many miles I'll ride, since I'm still having some issues from the fall back in January with lower back pain, etc from the broken tailbone, but I'll pedal as many as I can. My wife, crazylady is also riding it this year, and we'll be meeting the rest of Team Stormcrowe at the track in the morning.

OK, I just got up today, so here is the update.......

First off, the video!

YouTube - Tour de Cure 2009 Team Stormcrowe Century Attempt, Indianapolis Motor Speedway

I made 32 miles before my tailbone issue caused me too much pain to ride (Actually, almost too much pain to even stand up), even with ibuprofen. 10 wheels, trekden, Philcycle and scummer all finished up their centuries.

10 wheels got this shot of me.

crazylady did 15 miles, looking cool in her Hawaiian Shirt. Here she is getting little break in the shade.

Phil and his SO, at the end, he looks toasted, doesn't he?

trekden.....now he's disgusting. ;) Here he is, looking fresh as a daisy at 101 miles.

racerone and scummer are in this little detail of a paceline shot gotten by Zoxe's dad with a big lens. Zoxe, tell him I said thanks!

Looked like a lot of good times... Maybe with a few more replacement parts, and some work I can make it down there for the ride next year, or the year after that. Sorry to hear your injury kept you from completing your personal goals Tom. But, if you had fun, I'm sure it was worth it and of course for a great cause.

Well, hopefully, you'll be able to join us. You know, you could just come down and toodle around the track as part of the "Family Ride", with no specific miles goal, and enjoy the music and fun, as well., though. ;)

wow that looked like a ton of fun. They have a "Family" ride going on at the same time? I would love to do something like that with my wife but I am such a newb I wouldn't want to look like an idiot riding with you pros.

There were a lot of other people just churning out the gears around the track at their leisurely pace.
You don't have to worry about how pro or freddish or whatever you look. Just have fun pedaling around the track. And if you got the legs to hop on a paceline, that's fine as well. There were different pacelines with different speeds. I was in one that was going about 25-26mph, another one that I joined was going around 23-24mph, while a third one was at 20mph, which was a little bit too slow for my attempt.

And alot of people were just going on there own at maybe 10, 12 or 16mph. Whatever they were able to do, it was all good.

Looks like you all had a great time and weather.

I am very glad that I participated financially, and hope that it helps, and I am very proud of all of you who went to all the trouble to support this great event, but you know how when everyone says they loved a particular movie and then no matter how many times you watch it, you just don't see what everyone else sees? That is how organized events effect me. I have done a couple and they just NOT my bag. I will be more than happy to give again next year though.

btw....when I saw that first picture of you, I kind of jerked a bit. I think I sat in that exact section you were passing by. My main memory was that it was 1980, it was 100 degrees, I was drunker than Cooter Brown, I was shirtless without sunscreen and I think I got a 3rd degree sunburn. Ahhhh Good Times!

Will do, Tom!

Mrs. Zoxe and I were a couple of the less-serious riders on the course. We started at about 15mph but finished our 50-mile run at under 10mph for the last couple laps. Avg overall was about 11.5mph according to my cateye.

By the time we left the course, most of the other casual riders were long gone (expect many did 20 or 30 miles for their personal goals) and we were beginning to feel like speedbumps.

The cheering from the Trader Joe's tent made us smile.

There were of course quite a few folks with carbon bikes and spandex attire, but there was a little bit of everything. There were a few families with their small ones, and one guy was riding in jeans and a t-shirt.

The tall guy on the orange single speed fixie had my full respect. He blew past us early on like we were standing still ... and of course was riding hands free. :twitchy:

Here's me and Mrs. ATCFoody, 101.5 miles and 5:30:00 later. Definitely a good ride.

Tom, thanks again for putting the team together and letting me be a part of it. Count me in for next year.

Tom,

Thanks for photo and Vid. Interesting way to do the TDC ours was Last week in Saratoga NY.

we had a very good showing 1500 riders

how many riders do you normaly get at the speedway , rest stops are easy to organize.

Tailbone OUCH!!! I broke mine 5 years ago 3 times in a row. Fell down cellar stairs carrying tools, then a month later slipped on ice, then a month after that I fell on ice again (wearing dress shoes)

man does that hurt,

One good plus from the TB breaks

I suffered for years with a very touchy lower back /nerve problem (L4) many times during the year Id do somthing or sleep funny and id be walking crooked and in much pain for 2 weeks everytime.

after my 3rd tailbone break healed NO MORE Back problems !!!
