Mountain Biking - MTB Shoes

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Anybody have any recommendations on MTB shoes? I've got a pair of Nike's now that are OK, but I keep getting them muddy and then have to use them on the trainer. They were cheap, like $30, and I'd like to get a better pair for riding and just use these for the trainer. Any good ones or ones I should stay away from?
Did you ever notice the good looking shoes are the expensive ones? I really like the looks of the SIDI Dominator but there's no way I'm spending $189 bucks on shoes. Thanks for any input, DG
I have the Specialized MTB sport shoes. They were 70 bucks, and I love them..of course, I have no basis for comparison.
I have the answer speeder and love them.Except the laces which you can just change.I've seen last years models for $39
I like the Sidi shoes too...seem to be well used at the races.
Currently I have a pair of Time MTB shoes which are nice and comfy without loosing any of their stiffness.
Not too sure about the latest offering by Shimano...they look like footy boots!!! :D

I bought a pair of Northwave Evolution shoes on clearance for $110.00. I thought I'd never pay that much for a pair of shoes! I bought them initially partly because my old pair were falling apart and more so because they were Orange and Blue (University of Florida Gator colors)! That and I just got a reimbursement check and had the money burning a hole in my wallet!
At first I regreted spending that much on them, until I went back and wore my old shoes. The Northwave's were sooooo much more comfortable and essentially molded to my feet. Nothing like fine italian leather!
My suggestion, get a really good pair of shoes, but buy last years model on clearance! Your feet will love you for it!

I just saw a pair of SIDI Dominator 2's for $130. I'm tempted but that's a lot of money for shoes!:)

The shop I work for carries SIDI, the Dominator shoe is expensive, but I've never heard anyone complain with them. I've been tempted to buy some Genius 3's for my road bike, but I owe the shop enough money already! Plus, I've been using my Northwave's on my road bike and been riding mostly flat pedals on my Mtn. Bike.
Like I said, I didn't notice the difference between my new shoes until I went back to my old ones. I immediately thought, "Wow, and I thought these were comfy"

If you can find a pair of Diadora Chilis, try them on. They are easily the most comfortable MTB shoes I have ever owned; they're tough; the lace-and-strap closure gives a very accurate and snug fit; the sole is stiff enough for long rides and flex enough for runups. Great shoes. Excellent value.

I have looked at the chili's and the jalapenos, but hadn't heard from anyone who owned any though. They are some of the better looking shoes that I have seen. Glad to hear they are good shoes. I'll look into them further. Thanks.

The suggestion of buying last years model is good advice. That is what I always do.:D

Just found this new shoe from SIDI. I like the looks of it. Kind of a different style for SIDI. It's called the Forest.
do you wear your shoes with or without socks?
im goin to get an new pair soon too...
for me they have to be comfy without socks - i used togo sockless in my old ones, i really like that kinda "direct" feeling, and it gives me the impression of more control over my bike ...

I wear socks all the time. If I don't, my shoes stickus maximus and my wife makes me ride home on the roof rack.

I really like Shimano shoes. I have a 3 year old pair of their MTB shoes that are still in great shape. I would say this shoe is a similiar, newer version of what I have...
SH-M220 I would recommend these

They are very comfortable and have held up through snow rain and a drunken camp fire incedent
