Road Bike Racing - Tour de France - Loud and Large on the Big Screen

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Sorry if this a repost, but this is pretty cool. Watch stage 13 on a big screen near you.

you betcha. i got punished at the one over the weekend, so i'm thinking of going back for more. :)
but watching a stage on the big screen would be really cool too.

How are those races anyway? I always get there at 9am or so on the weekends and see cones saying "caution bicycle race". I guess I always miss it. Are they every saturday and sunday?
How fast do you think my average speed would have to be to have a chance in hell of staying with the pack?

i don't want to hijack this thread - but we talked about it briefly in this thread:
http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=53997
but, the race was a lot of fun. your average speed would need to be well into the 20's to keep up with the group. i was at 18.5 over the 5 laps and got lapped! they also sprint like crazy when you least expect it and just want to recover.

This is when it's bad to be on the West Coast...waking up and watching on the couch at 5:00am is one thing (and having the race be over before work, which is great), getting out and to a theater is quite another :( Such a cool idea though - might have to get up and go!
25 bucks!!! have they no shame.....i'll wait for the dvd....

It's a fundraiser for Tyler's foundation, the focus of which is Multiple Sclerosis.
Good grief.
I'd pay the $40 to help them....it's an awful disease.

I'm already doing a multi-day charity ride that day. Otherwise, it'd be totally cool to go. When Prince did the first concert of his current tour, he did the same thing -- had the show broadcast live to these same theaters. It was a lot of fun to be there. It wasn't like a movie experience, but more like a lot of people getting together for a party. Expect a lot fun to be had!

Hey Brill..Thanks for the link. I will be sure to spread the word to my buddies. Since my cable company does not carry OLN it's a great opportunity for me.
I'll be riding the STP that day. However, for those of you in the Seattle area, Cascades Bicycle Club is doing a couple of "showings" of other stages too on a big screen. One of the events even includes a BBQ with a beer garden to help celebrate Bastille Day. More information can be found on Cascade's Tour Cyclism website (http://www.cascade.org/EandR/tour_cyclism.cfm).
