Folding Bikes - Steel Swift from Human Powered Machines

Here are some pictures of my Human Powered Machines (http://hpm.catoregon.org/) steel Swift.
More work to do, it is ready to be ridden. You can see from the first
picture to the next two the brakes were changed. I decided to go with
451 rims and the cantilevers did not fit.

Very nice. I always like the Steel Swift over the Al ones which all look the same. How much is the frame today?

I see a refinement: Cable eyelets/guides. I have always regretted mine doesn't have these except in 1 position near the head tube.

Only thing I would suggest is that you might want some sort of chain retention setup in the front. IME, a chain will always derail from a single ring otherwise, if you're shifting in the back.

A clamp-on front derailer with the limit screws cranked in should work nicely.

The basic frame with seat tube and fork is was $700 plus shipping. I added the bottle cage mounts, that added $20. It comes just as you see in the first picture, minus the cantilever brakes.

Any chance you weighed the bare steel frame?

What rims are those? I am running Stelvios on FMR rims and the tires are almost impossible to mount.
Thinking I need a slightly more compatible rim. Did you put those tires on your self? If so how difficult was it?
Only looking for 451 sized rims..

ECB, thanks for the suggestion, I will look into chain retention.

Kraftwerk, The weight is 22lbs/10kg, the rims are Velocity Fusion rims. I had no trouble mounting the Stelvios. A question for you, what did you use for rim tape? Some tapes are too wide to seat properly and therefore interfere with seating the tire bead correctly. I am not familiar with the FMR rims.

My rims are actualy "FMF" and they are too big for 451 tires by about 1mm.

the weight sounds just about right. You will enjoy that frame a long time....

10kg? am i right in thinking that's little more than the Al version? or is that excluding wheels/cassette?

The 10Kg is for the completed build, just as you see it. I will be adding a rear rack and pack plus the chain guard.
