I went riding this weekend in the Catskills. After visiting friends and family in Woodstock I left early Sat morning to maybe the most famous climb in the area Platte Cove RD or "Devils's Kitchen". It made it's name in the Tour de Trump/Tour duPont. I headed up West Saugerties out off Woodstock and road for a few very scenic miles, the mountains to my right and farms and horses to my left. As I made the sharp right on to Platte Cove Rd I thought of Phil and Paul talking about the finishing climb of the mid-nineties L-B-L ...." after the right hander the road goes straight up". Well, that's pretty much what happens here. Not only is it very steep, the length is unrelenting. Suffice to say I got off and walked a lot of it. I'm going back in two weeks..ostensibly to visit family and friends but really to haul my 41 year-old behind up a mountain on my bike. You guys know the feeling.
