Hello there! I'm from a city called Belo Horizonte, Brazil's 3rd biggest, but completely unknown to the outside world. It's a really hilly place with good weather all year round, with a lot of trails on the outskirts, so it's a great place to ride.

I've always loved bikes since I was a little kid. I'm involved in bike activism and I think bicycles are the answers to many of modern societies' problems.
I hope to contribute to the forums and share experiences with everyone.

That is awesome! I've been to Belo Horizonte and I absolutely loved it. I know exactly what you mean about the great weather and trails. What type of bike activism are you a part of in BH? I'm from Portland, Oregon, where biking is really big.

That's great... too bad I can't say the same to portland. I really wanted to go there. Traveled around the west in the US a year ago but my time was short so I just hanged around SF instead of going north. But I'm sure I'll go there someday. I heard that portland has a lot of vegan restaurants!

Well, about the bike activism, I'm involved mainly with the "Bicicletada", which is kinda like Critical Mass, but without the controversial aspects of it. And I'm being the change that I want to see in the world and people notice that and think about it. Already talked a few friends into riding bikes instead of cars.

That is really great. Keep up the good work. I commute to work everyday on my bike; I'm trying to do my part.

By the way, are you are Cruzero or Atletico fan?

Nossa, que mineiros aqui! =p

I lived in BH for about 7 months in 2005 and then returned for another 1.5 months 2006!

Unfortunately, when I was there I wasn't in to bikes as much, but I always admired cyclists for having pretty big saco for riding the roads down there. I recall taking the bus to BH Shopping and seeing road cyclists on the freeway and just thinking...wow.

I was more into climbing then and would hang out at BH Vertical and go to Serra do Cipo to climb.

What do you do in BH? When I was there studying in 2005 I befriended some guys at Contact CRJ (Centro do Referencia da Juventude) near Aglomorado Serra. Check them out if you have a chance. Maybe get some of the youth into it.

Entao, bem vindo ao Bike Forums cara. Eu espero que voce vai adorar esta forums. Meu portugues nao eh bom de mais agora, mas eu posso tentar ainda! =p

Abs,
-t.

Edited to add: I can't imagine the hill climbs you guys have in and around BH! So jealous.

Just back from Brazil and loved it.
Was down there for a UCI MTB race in Sao Laurenzo. Visited BH and it is a terrific city. Loved Rio as well, warm friendly fantastic people.
Njoy.

Actually I'm not really into soccer... which is kinda weird coming from a family with a bunch of radio and tv sportscasters... But I tend to like Atletico a bit more. :thumb:

Sportscasters? Hah. It's ok, not everyone plays soccer and dances samba in Brazil. =p

Yeah! I studied Ciencias Politicas na UFMG! FAFICH woot! I ended up coming back to do a research project on the efficacy of NGO's on political participation of youth, as well as how the government is trying to incorporate NGO networks into government participatory councils, like CONJOVE.
