Triathlon - Rented a pair of Zipp 1080's to try at my next race...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

...And oh my God they're hot. I think my T1 will be slowed by stopping to stare at the bike for a moment. :D

All in all a good experience from racedaywheels.com on the rental. I'll be taking them out for a spin today--we'll see how they feel. :)

I bet your Reynolds+wheel cover would be faster than that Zipp rear wheel.

You better be able to back up that wheelset! Don't be that guy that I saw today at Escape from Alcatraz, that was getting into T2 on his bike, as I was finishing the run (and I was somewhere around MOP), who had a P3C, disc rear, deep vee front, and all the rest of the go fast gear, and a dunlop tire. By that, I mean his belly dun lopped over the front of his tri shorts by quite a bit!

No offense or anything, but dude can ride whatever he wants and can afford, and he can do so at whatever speed he wants. If the fancy P3C and all the fixins are getting him excited about riding and pushing to a PR, who are you to judge whether he's worthy of his equipment? As far as I know the only thing anyone needs to "back up" a fancy bike is money.

Of course, he can spend all his money (or even a small fraction of a huge fortune) on expensive bike parts, but in my opinion, I don't think he should. We'll have to agree to disagree on this one, I think as it is an arguement that gets repeated over and over on BF.

Anyways, wheelset looks nice.

I'm still in sprint land... Nation's Tri will be my first Oly, so I figured since the sprint is exactly half that on the same course it would be good training.

Yeah, it sure does... Maybe I'm extra sensitive because I ride bikes that many consider well "beyond my level," but hey-- I like building/riding nice bikes and it keeps me training. Sometimes in style. ;)

And with the bike split being the only thing I can consistently do well on, I need to squeeze out every last second so when I start hemorrhaging time on the run I have a nice cushion. :)

You're preaching the choir, I have done two sprints, 750m,20k,5k and 750m,30k,5k and like them a lot my wife thought it would be good for me to do an olympic, so I will just have to work on pacing.

I did a 40k TT this past weekend in Carlisle, my first in 63:07 so I know I can do the bike with no issues, just going to slow it down, going to plan on surviving the swim and jogging the run i suppose.

Where in the metro area do you live? I live in Fairfax.

Wow, your wife is quite the motivator! ;)

I live almost directly between DC and Baltimore, in Laurel, MD.

She has a lot of fun at the races that I have done thus far. Although I dont think she will be trying to make it to the race this weekend. With as many streets that are going to be closed and the early start it would just be too much trouble for her to get to the start and then move to the finish all the while trying to control our 2 1/2 year old.

Best of luck this weekend, I will try looking for your bike Saturday afternoon. I am not sure what time I am going to go up for the pre-race meeting / bike check in but it will be in the afternoon thinking 3 or 4ish. I have a black clear coat Pedal Force TT2 with Williams 58 wheels, and a disc cover on the rear, stealth looking all black.

-jeremy, still cant believe I am actually paying money to swim in the potomac.

I'll probably be down there about the same time--I'll PM you my race number or something. Always nice to meet a BFer at the races...

I think my wife is going to try to make it with our 4-month-old, but we'll see. She's definitely not coming with me in the early car at 0430 or whatever the heck time it's going to be...

Just so we don't forget the topic of this thread, that is one fine piece of bike, my friend...

Any updates on the Zipps? I'd love to see some on my bike someday.
