Hey everyone. I'm new to the forums and the fixie world as well, but not to fear, i have been doing my research/lurking here for a while so i'm not totally lost. I have a 1978 Ross europa 10 speed waiting for me back at home which im going to convert to ss/fg flip flop. i'm currently in denmark studying abroad and the overwhelming amount of people commuting via bike has really inspired me to start as well. The majority of my riding will be through NYC and i have been trying to figure out what gearing to shoot for. i was thinking a 46t chainring 15t cog and 16t freewheel. does this seem like a reasonable combination for city commuting? I'm 6'1" 170 and in decent shape. I really look forward to building my bike and hanging around here for a good while.

I would get a bike from BD and not waste time and money converting that.
