Living Car Free - Nearly Naked Riders Protest Oil Dependency

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

"This is good for awareness," said Chris Bracken, 24, of the District, who, along with two friends, was participating in her first naked ride. "Nudity is always a good way to get someone's attention."
The goal of the two-mile trip downtown was to protest oil dependency and promote bicycles as a transportation alternative. Of course, there are ways to make these statements while wearing clothes, but let's face it -- they're not nearly as attention-getting.
Nudity is a good way to get someone's attention. I'm all in favor of nudity. I'd do it myself, but I am afraid of saddle sores.

We have the same kind of rides here in Europe, but folks really get naked: http://www.20minutos.es/galeria/2598/0/0/ (Don't look if you're offended by naked bodies).

I don't like being dependent on oil, but not enough to go out and scare the masses with my grand physique.
I'll just stick to doing what I've been doing all these years, and try to reduce my oil dependency percentage wise by the amount the U.S. imports from the OPEC nations, which currently stands at around 30 percent.

I protest oil dependency in the nude ALL the time!
Granted, it's on BF, but still.... :innocent:

When I moved from our Mountain home to our desert home I cut my fuel usage by close to 60 percent if not more. But if they are going to protest in the nude the least they could do is cover themselves in Motor oil. Some of them could scare children.

I find it funny that doing the most natural human thing is illegal.

Why is nudity considered natural? The earliest people wore clothes, and 99% of all cultures have required clothing--even in tropical climates. I think we need clothes because we don't have mating seasons like the other animals. We're horny all the time. Also we don't have fur, so we get chilly easily.

I would argue that clothes are needed for warmth and protection from the elements. Other than that, probably not so much - it is just that we are all used to it. If you go to a nudist colony, people go about their business pretty much like anywhere else - there aren't mass orgies just because everyone is naked.

I have a friend who once went out looking for an apartment. He went to one that unknown to him was a clothes-optional apartment complex. I'm sure he probably missed a big warning sign or two, but if you knew my friend you'd understand about that. Anyway, his story started when he walked into the apartment office...
As for nude biking, not for me. I'd hate to get road rash under those circumstances.

You may be correct. But if we are honest clothes do cover a multitude of defects shall we say.

What a pity. :o
Lotta folks obsessing here about the imperfections of ordinary people -- hey, we can't all look like fashion models! How would they pick OUT the fashion models if we did?
I saw nothing really disturbing in those pix...not one to look at guys, of course, but now I feel a little better about what happens in cold weather............

For all you know I could be posting naked... and you would not believe how much that bugs the folks at the coffee shop.

I would need a new saddle if I were to do this. Mine is an ass hatchet(well just for my sit bones) if I don't wear bike shorts.

:D
Reminds me of one of my favorite jokes, from Steven Wright: "I installed a new skylight this weekend. I couldn't believe how upset the people upstairs got."

That's why I use the Public Library.
