hey all,

i am in the market to buy some new panniers. i was hoping to make them karrimore but i cannot find a dealer in canada or the states. also i am wondering if there are any people with first hand experience regarding karrimore panniers. i was thinking of buying the kalahari rear 60L pannier.

also, i am in the process of building up a new surly long haul trucker at a local bike shop and will post in a few weeks with news...

thanks

I just got a Long Haul also. I've got the bottom bracket installed and right now it's @ the shop to get the fork cut and headset pressed. I'll keep you posted on the build also. I'm stoked on it's potential.

I did a Google search for karrimor panniers and a lot of reviews spoke poorly of their durability especially over rough roads. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&q=karrimore+panniers

The Karrimore panniers were not really up to sustained riding on rough roads: the weakest link turned out to be the bolts that connected them to the mechanism ... What else had your consideration?

thankshi Iam John from Accrington in England..This is were Karrimors are made..Im sorry to say Karrimor is a great name of the past and business has been downsized over recent recent years.and it is nowadays very much an endangered species..Ifear the name may soon disappear as everything in the factory shop is being sold off at 50% at the moment.....

Well at least Carradice is still in the bike bag biz. Personally I think they are tougher, more waterproof for longer, more fixable and generally better than Karrimoor.

Carradice does make some really wonderful bags. Also dont forget Arkel up in Canada. Top rate bags, excellent prices and guaranteed forever :)

If you don't mind the shiny fabric Ortlieb panniers are wonderful. The roll top ones are totally (as in dry bag) waterproof, you can leave them outside the tent in a downpour and they are fine. Spend enough time in a mountainous island in the east of the atlantic and you begin to appreciate things like that. Carradice ones do look nice though and are probably easier to fix, if they're anything like my ventile jacket (same material) they will be pretty waterproof but do get extremely heavy when wet.

Pity if karrimor do dissapear, got a large collection of rucksacs by them and they are good.
