Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Funny bike handling

I'm going to buy an old 80s TT bike SS conversion with a 700c rear and 24" front wheel. How do these bikes tend to handle? I have heard from some people that they are really only good for riding in close to a straight line, but I have heard from others that they are actually very twitchy and sensitive. I'm sure it probably depends on the model, but what is it generally like?

at low speeds it's quick and sensitive to direction change (so i guess what some may call "twitchy") but at higher speeds it's very stable in a straight line. I found it to be very nice for dodging crowds of pedestrians on campus. they have a very positive acceleration feel too. the only think i didn't care too much for is the big drop. I guess i could have raised the stem or run risers, but I didn't like how it looked and i'm a poser fashion *****.

very fun bikes though. I just had too many and ended up selling it. slightly regret that, but it's freed up time and space for my other bikes

is that because of the wheel size? a steep head tube and low rake, which it likely has, will do the same.

more rake would make the bike less stable, a zero rake fork would make a steep head tube'd bike about as stable as it's going to get.

well I bought it! should be here in about a week. Thanks for the info. one thing I'm kind of curious about is how it handles climbing and descending hills. I know funny bikes were not really designed for this, but does anyone have experience doing this? do they start to get wobbly and scary at high speeds?

ha ha yeah thats true i was just curious because at first i was wondering if I should get one or not, but then i found one for 275 on ebay so i just went for it.
