Hey,
There is quite a difference in price (Schwinn is £189.99 and the Boulder is the £229.99). I was hoping you could tell me which overall is the best bike and whether the disc breaks on the Boulder will be superior. I am new and looking for a decent new bike (my parents will not let me get a second hand one), would these be good for road use and some fairly basic trails. Thanks a lot and would these bikes be "upgradeable"? Thanks again and are there any other bikes at this price that would be good considering the components?

I'd go with the Giant. I've got IO brakes on one of my bikes and they work just fine. Obviously, the drivetrain and other components there seem relatively low-end, but you can easily upgrade them to better if/when they break.

Make sure to buy from a dealer that will help you get the correct size and will adjust the seatpost height and saddle position properly for you (and perhaps handlebar position if necessary).

PS - "brakes" slow vehicles, while "breaks" hurt you or help you.
