My Steamroller was stolen :( but this is now an opportunity (insurance covered most of it) to build something nicer. track or close to track geometry (some velodrome (in NH) but will be my city bike)
$750 for frame(can go a little more, but less is better)
Steel
high bb (i pedal struck several time on the steamroller with 165s)
I currently have a Mavic Ellipse wheelset.

You insured a steamroller? Did you just throw that into home insurance or something? I'm not saying it's dumb, Im just curious.

EAI Bareknuckle is a good one, Alien is nice too if you dig them lugs

At least he got it insured and can get a new bike for pretty much free. :notamused:
Used njs or Bob Jackson (and pay more), bare knuckle, new langster :p

Bob Jackson is a good deal as well. If you're into the pursuit frame style, you could get a custom Spicer pursuit frame for $650.

Bob Jackson or Soma Rush. Rush is a nice frame and it's relatively cheap. Put a CF (wound up) fork on it and it will be really smooth, too.

Also, I'm not down w/ Alien b/c it is just basic 4130. I am all about nice tubing. I can really tell a difference. I suggest getting something w/ 631/853 or Tange Prestige or some other good steel.

Masi sprint, Jamis sputnik, or Soma Rush. Thats what I would be looking at anyway.

I was pumped about the Sputnik, but i have heard it has a low BB.
so what i have seen locally (boston) is:
<700
a) soma rush
b) traitor
<800
c) bare knuckle
d) Torelli
>800
e) De Bernardi Thron
f) Geekhouse
thoughts?

Well if I had my choice of those and the money to get one, I'd go for a geekhouse.

Geekhouse is in the $800 range?
At that pricepoint, maybe go with the Rush? No frills, but very lightweight and fun to ride. I don't know. I just feel like the difference between $300 to $800 isn't as much as the difference between $800 and $1300. Of course, you wanted steel, so that kind of makes that a moot point since more expensive track frames are generally not steel unless they are custom/handmade or involve some level of frame-making artistry.

used njs, ride the f-out of it and have money to spare.
i'd pick up a dented one for discount. (most of the dents are from bars, and a lot of the time you'll wrap that spot anyway)

There is a 7-8 week lead time for these...can't do that.
Geekhouse is in the $800 range?
No the Geekhouse in not in that range, but they are a local company that is pushing a lot for boston bike safety and ride-ability, so just keeping the idea there.

I would love this, but just unclear if this is really possible.

Jamis sputnik or bareknuckle

Adriano---I know it's terrible. Haha. It's just that w/ nice steel I can tell such a difference. Especially when pumping up a hill.
Sputnik does have a low BB, but I run w/ 165mm cranks and I haven't had a single pedal strike (and I like to take some tight corners)
I didn't think about bareknuckle or geekhouse though. Those are both really cool. My friend has a BK and it is a nice looking bike...feels great too. I thought they discontinued it, though?

Gotcha, gotcha ... yeah ... I actually have a shirt from them I won in an alleycat ... seems like they make some really slick frames. Never ridden one, but they look like quality handmade bikes. I was surprised to learn they were attainable actually. Hah.

Most renters insurance will cover a fair amount of loss. When I got my policy I only had to put riders on it for my computers (up to about 3-4000, I forget exactly) and my fiance's ring. Since I have receipts for all the stuff I've purchased for my bike, I should be set if it ever gets stolen. I highly recommend renters insurance. I only pay ~$100 a year for almost 30,000 in coverage and $200,000 in liability coverage.

Yes, i do not have renters, but luckily my parents home owner's insurance covers me since I am a dependable on taxes (don't get me wrong i pay for my own ****, it just helps their taxes while i am in college). The problem is the high deductible, $500, but i was able to get a shop to make a pretty high estimate (which was pretty legit considering hand pro laced wheels, new fork, fenders, etc)
So I have now changed my mind to either the Bareknuckle or a Debernardi Thron or the Torelli Corsa Pista. discuss... (or change my mind again)

Pista Concept? No looking for an ALU frame. They are just too harsh and delicate. Steal is real.

Once again, I present to you:
http://www.bobjacksoncycles.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=28&products_id=307
Outstanding reputation, including shipping charges from England this thing is still cheaper than a Bareknuckle, Debernardi or the Torelli. And if such things matter to you, made in England and not China.

From Bob Jackson Cycles, "Please note delivery now approx 7 weeks" This is quite a while. I was hoping to have something ready in the next 2 weeks. But is it really worth waiting that long? I mean i could build up something cheap, and sell the frame when it comes in if it is worth it.
and the 3 i mentioned above are made in Italy (according to all my research).

has anyone actually gotten in touch with bob jackson? i have been wanting a road frame from him, and emailed trying to get some geometry specs. its been months, and i have emailed them 4 times, and never gotten a response.
im always hesitant to deal with someone that doesn't respond to emails. even if they are really backed up, they should take the time to tell you they will get it to you asap.
