I am not a true cyclist. Before having my son, I use my bike regularly for excercise and transportation. I live in a suburb with grid streets and heavy traffic. I have a decent hybrid that I bought 4 years ago.
I am trying to decide what's my best option for a bike trailer. My 1 1/2 year old son is already over 3 feet tall and weighs about 30 lbs. I will mostly use it for 2-5 mile jaunts on streets with occasional longer bike trail rides. The Burley d'lite looks great but I can't afford it. Even used on ebay, it goes for $300. On the other hand I know you get what you pay for and if it's too hard to hitch, too heavy to pull or not comfortable for my son, then I will just be wasting money.
I keep seeing the InStep Duo but it appears to weigh close to twice what many of the higher end trailers weigh (I'd be pulling almost 70 pounds already - what about when he was 3 1/2 or when we have a second kid - seems unenjoyable).
Has anyone tried the low end Chariot or Burley trailers? Or know where I could find one used (they are not as common on ebay)? What about the Schwinn or the InStep Elite? Also I've seen mention of Trek trailers but haven't found much about them.
Thanks, Michelle
